Caring behavior is our attitude and behavior in treating others we serve with love, our caring attitude towards patients through empathy. Anxiety in pre-operative patients who are not managed well greatly affects the healing process resulting from the operation itself, including patients being less cooperative. This study aims to identify the relationship between nurses' caring behavior and patient anxiety levels at Santa Elisabeth Hospital Medan in 2023. The research design uses a correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sampling technique in this research used purposive sampling with a sample size of 66 respondents. The instruments used were caring behavior questionnaires and preoperative patient anxiety. The research results showed that the majority of nurses' caring behavior was in the very good category, as many as 65 respondents (98%) and the majority of preoperative patient anxiety levels were in the moderate category, namely 35 people (53%). The Spearman Rank statistical test obtained a p-value of 0.031 (p < 0.05), so it was concluded that there was a relationship between caring behavior and the patient's preoperative anxiety level. Researchers suggest that hospitals can maintain and even improve caring behavior towards patients and create permanent protocols regarding surgical preparation procedures.
